History in the Making
A summer Selection

by Cristelle Terroni , 11 August 2014

Books&Ideas presents a second summer selection, in which contemporary historians tell us about the future of history as a discipline, about how they research and write history, and the way history affects their bodies and minds.

History, as all scientific disciplines, is constantly evolving. The hyper-specialization of historical studies seems to have suppressed the taste for the longue durée, while counterfactual history has freed itself from historical determinism. For its second summer selection, Books&Ideas offers a medley of essays, reviews and video interviews discussing these changes and trends, as well as the future of history as a discipline. Contemporary historians tell us how they research and write history, and the way history affects their bodies and minds.
