Sarah Fila-Bakabadio



Sarah Fila-Bakabadio is Associate Professor at the University Cergy-Pontoise (France). Her research focuses on the contemporary intellectual and cultural history of Afro-descendants’ relationships to Africa (United States and Europe). Her dissertation explored American Afrocentrisms as an example of intellectual movements generating social and cultural practices among black people today.

She authored several articles on this topic among which “Du global au particulier: Kwanzaa Music ou la quête identitaire afro-américaine” (Cahiers d’études africaines, 2002), “L’étoffe de l’africanité” (Civilisations, 2007) ; “Building up Black Frenchness through an Afrocentric Lens?”, (African Diaspora and Black Diaspora: an International Journal, 2011).
